Faux flora over fresh flowers

Fresh flowers, although beautiful, comes with a significant environmental cost. They require vast amounts of water, pesticides and carbon emissions due to the transport process, which typically involves long-distance shipping via air freight. The delicate nature of fresh flowers means they have a short shelf life, contributing to even more waste when they perish before reaching consumers or during transport.

Faux flora are on the other hand a more sustainable choice. They require less water, fewer chemicals and no pesticides during production. Their durability means they can be enjoyed for years, which reduces the overall environmental impact when compared to the short-lived nature of fresh flowers.

Tackling flower waste

It’s sad but true - the majority of fresh flowers never make it to the market. Whether it’s due to spoilage during transport, being discarded for aesthetic imperfections or market oversupply, a staggering amount of fresh flowers end up wasted, contributing to environmental harm. This waste creates a significant burden on landfills, consumes valuable resources and adds to pollution.

Materials

Although materials pose environmental challenges, such as silk and polyester are still used more manufacturers are shifting toward environmentally conscious production methods. This helps reduce their footprint and aligns with growing customer awareness around sustainability. For instance, some stems are often made from recycled plastics.
